Bill started Candent because he wanted to help healthcare and technology professionals and their families remove the burden of dealing with personal finances. He is an experienced financial adviser available to work locally with clients in San Francisco and virtually nationwide. He takes pride in being independent and providing objective, evidence-based advice as a fiduciary.
Bill believes that families should have access to the information and resources they need to make sound financial decisions. He is a strong advocate for financial education and wants to help families gain the knowledge and skills they need to make good financial choices.
Bill is committed to helping families demystify personal finance and build a solid foundation for their financial future. He provides clear, actionable advice based on each family’s unique circumstances and goals.
He knows firsthand how helpful it would have been for the family if his parents had known about and understood the resources available to them when he was growing up. As immigrant Cantonese speakers, they would have benefited greatly from this type of guidance. Instead, Bill spent much time and effort discovering what our family needed to know and learning it in order to help the family.
Bill has devoted his entire three-decade career to providing economic and financial advice based on research and evidence. Before changing careers to help families with personal finances, he was an economist and investment strategist on Wall Street for almost two decades. Bill started his career in economics on the research staff of the Federal Reserve Board in Washington, DC. Bill studied economics and graduated Phi Beta Kappa with honors from Rutgers University. He earned his MBA in finance from Columbia Business School. Bill continued to build his knowledge of investments by becoming a CFA charterholder and financial planning by becoming a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNING(tm) professional.
In his free time, Bill enjoys with his wife Pam the splendors of the outdoors in the San Francisco Bay area. While not traveling to explore the cultures and food around the world, Bill and Pam are proud to be members of the committee for the Walk to End Lupus in San Francisco and to keep up with the training as members of the Neighborhood Emergency Response Team. Bill volunteers with the FYI Project to speak with middle school kids about careers in finance.
